ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS – COMPUTER SCIENCE EMPHASIS
10 MONTH, TENURE TRACK POSITION
This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, extension site, and/or hybrid assignments.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Mathematics, Science & Engineering, the teaching assignment may consist of a combination of courses in Computer Science and mathematics including both developmental and transferable lower division courses. The new faculty member will participate in department, school and college committees, selected staff development and/or extracurricular activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in computer science or computer engineering;
OR
Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering;
OR
Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration;
OR
Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration;
OR
Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems;
OR
The equivalent;
OR
A valid California Community College Instructor Credential in Computer Science.
Note: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.
OR
Master's Degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics;
OR
Bachelor's Degree in either of the above AND a Master's Degree in Statistics, Physics, or Mathematics Education;
OR
The equivalent;
OR
A valid California Community College Instructor Credential in Mathematics.
AND
A minimum of four (4) courses in the Computer Science field.
Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a rich and diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Experience working in a community college with a similar diversity pattern as is found in the service area for Southwestern College is desirable as well as the ability to utilize teaching methods, techniques, and strategies appropriate for students for whom English is a second language.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with teaching a wide variety of subjects within the discipline; demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom learning environment where students are engaged in the material; commitment to maintaining currency in Computer Science and/or mathematics instruction methodology; experience teaching at the community college level; and utilizing instructional technology.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based upon years of experience and education. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 6. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.
