Assistant/Associate Professor, Foundational Sciences- Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Position Summary
The problem-based learning entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a full time, 12-month, tenured track faculty member. The faculty hired will be responsible for teaching the Foundational Sciences (Anatomy, physiology, neuroscience) content to the 2nd and 3rd year students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University also include scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Rank and salary commensurate with experience, responsibilities and qualifications.

This position is considered a Mandatory Reporter under state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
Teach as part of an integrated team in a problem-based curriculum ensuring the foundational sciences content complements the clinical skills and reasoning threads.
Develop curriculum content aligned with the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) content outline and expectations of the accrediting bodies.
Deliver that curriculum in alignment with the problem-based learning teaching philosophy in the School of Physical Therapy.
Develop and manage a course website in the Blackboard, the Learning Management System used by the program.
Demonstrate teaching effectiveness related to content expertise, instructional design, instructional delivery and student engagement.
Active engagement in a scholarly agenda.
Meet scholarship expectations of both CAPTE and UIW Rank & Tenure committee.
Service to School, University, community and profession.
Participate in faculty development workshops.
Maintain contemporary currency in area of teaching.
Advise students and mentor student/faculty scholarly projects.

Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology or proven ability to learn these skills.
Demonstrated expertise in an area of physical therapy practice.
Willingness to develop effective learning facilitation skills.
Ability to work independently with confidence and to effectively coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
Proficiency in human relations, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and academic counseling.
Proficiency in working collaboratively and effectively in a team.
Proficiency in multitasking, and meeting deadlines.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
PhD in Basic Science (Anatomy, Physiology, Neuroscience).

Required Work Experience
Prior basic sciences teaching experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience in a physical therapy academic program.
History of scholarly activity.
Expertise in acute care.
Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Licensed in Texas and member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
