Position Summary

The Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Research Specialist (Natural Sciences) to join the Shimamura lab.

Duties & Responsibilities

Conducts experiments according to established research protocols for multiple projects simultaneously.

Collects, reviews, and analyzes individually- and team-generated data.

Operates, cleans, and maintains research equipment, keep IBC and IACUC protocol up to date and maintains neatness in research lab spaces.

Placing orders and tracking inventory levels.

Documents results for presentations including external conferences and internal lab meetings.

Provides training and operational guidance on day-to-day activities for laboratory student workers.

Performs literature reviews and writes reports/co-authors scientific papers for presentations and publications.

Work some (minimal) extended hours or on weekends when needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred.

Experience with animals REQUIRD.

A minimum of 3 years related research experience.

Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.

Proficient in specific lab research techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Requires B.A./B.S./M.S. in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences, or related area.

Minimum of 2 years of wet lab/bench experience in academic research setting.

Preferred knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques such as western blotting and PCR

Ability to work hands-on with mice and mammalian model systems.

Preferred experience with orthotopic/GEMM animal models

Salary based on experience.
