Job Description Summary

Provide excellent customer service to building faculty, staff, and students. Troubleshoot problems and recommend and implement solutions to problems and emergencies. Supervise Service Mechanics and any assigned Building Services Assistants. Monitor Housekeeping supervision. Prioritize building needs. Coordinate utility shutdowns and emergency drills. Coordinate special events. Maintain on-call status in case of utility shutdowns, emergencies, service requests, or investigations in assigned buildings.

Job Description

The School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) Facilities Planning & Operations Department provides services in project coordination, building administration, and operational services to the various departments within all School of Arts and Sciences buildings and spaces, both on and off campus.

Specifically, Building Administrators serve as the primary liaison between SAS faculty and staff, SAS Facilities, central University Facilities Services, Public Safety, Environmental Health & Radiation Safety (EHRS), University Lab Animal Resources (ULAR), and VPUL classrooms. Building Administrators direct and instruct their Building Service Mechanics in their daily work.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, coordinate and administer operations (including maintenance, repair, renovation, housekeeping, safety, and security) in assigned buildings, which may include an animal research facility and surrounding grounds to ensure optimum delivery.
  • Serve as the liaison between building occupants, all University Departments, and outside vendors responsible for building operations.
  • Troubleshoot problems, recommend, and implement solutions to problems and emergencies.
  • Supervise service mechanics and assign building service assistants.
  • Monitor Housekeeping supervision.
  • Prioritize building needs.
  • Coordinate utility shutdowns and emergency drills.
  • Coordinate special events.
  • Maintain on-call status in case of utility shutdowns, emergencies, service requests, or investigations in assigned buildings.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Experience in an academic setting preferred
  • Experience in lab-based environment preferred
  • Computer experience preferred including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, calendar and E-mail
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical aspect of planning for operating and maintaining mechanical, plumbing, electrical and structural systems and housekeeping services of large and complex buildings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to supervise, coordinate, work cooperatively and instruct others
  • Ability to interact with diverse community; accurate and prompt record keeping and attention to problems required, with appropriate follow-up
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize
