Senior Laboratory Sciences Professional - 35573 University Staff Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department of Pediatrics | Section of Genetics & Metabolism

Job Title: Senior Laboratory Sciences Professional

Position #: 00829107 - Requisition #:35573

Job Summary:

Our laboratory studies rare biochemical diseases for which we develop new treatments. In the current project, we are studying a disorder that has a terrible outcome and has not had a new treatment since 1991. We have developed a mouse model, explored the biochemical changes, and identified two new treatments. These new treatments need to be further developed so that they can be applied to children with this unfortunate condition in the next five years. This involves developing the correct application in the mouse model, evaluating its impact on the mouse function, and developing outcome measures for use in future clinical trials. The project involves both mouse work in collaboration with many people on campus, and biochemical assays and functional evaluation in collaboration with various cores.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Mouse colony management, including breeding and genotyping.
  • Mouse animal experiments, including providing proposed treatments, harvesting samples, and providing animals to cores in the animal facility that provide functional evaluations.
  • Analyze samples from the mice for biochemical or biological evaluations such as measuring proteins, and metabolites using a variety of techniques.
  • Assist or be responsible for new assay development, validation, and application, often in the biochemical sphere but can be biological.
  • Assist in writing protocols or publications and presenting at national meetings.
  • Work collaboratively in a tight-knit group that cares about genetic diseases that affect children with rare diseases.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
